We are thrilled to welcome back Ms. Alycia Campbell and Miss Elena Modrzejewski as our instructors for another amazing year of dance at the GAAC! Similar to last year, classes are available for beginners, juniors, intermediates and teens. Approximate ages for classes have been provided with final placement to be determined by Ms. Alycia and Miss Elena. New this year, Ms Alycia and Miss Elena would like to offer a Tap Dance Workshop! GAAC dancers will have the opportunity to perform at RFOTA and our Annual Recital.

TUESDAYS

SEPTEMBER 24 TO APRIL 21 (28 WEEKS)

Little Stars – Beginner Class (Approximate Age 3 to 5)
4:30-5:30pm – $340 (1 Costume included)
Includes two in-class parent viewings and one routine performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.

Looking to introduce dance to your little one? This class does just that by providing an introduction to movement with music for Dance. Each class is designed to teach the basics of dance in a fun and encouraging atmosphere while introducing students to a class setting. Through movement the students learn about their bodies, the space around them, and how music brings that together.

Boys Funk (Approximate Age 5 & up)
5:30-6:30pm – $340 (1 Costume included)

Includes two in-class parent viewings and one routine performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.
A class just for the boys! This class introduces students to Hip Hop with the technique and athleticism of Jazz. A great class to start learning rhythm and music with some funky and fun dance moves.

Jazz and Kids’ Hip Hop – Junior and Intermediate Class (Approximate Age 6-11)
6:30-8pm – $505 (2 Costumes included)

Includes two in-class parent viewings and two routines performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.
Jazz dance is a popular form of dance with roots in African movement set to contemporary music. Sharp accents, fast turns and high jumps are some of the elements learned in this class. Kids Hip Hop is an introduction to Hip Hop, a fun and challenging dance style set to the music of today combining body isolations with intricate rhythmic patterns. Students will learn the vocabulary of both genres that will foster the proper foundations of growth for the students to excel within this class.

Jazz and Hip Hop – Teen Class (Approximate Age 12 and Up)
8-9pm – $405 (2 Costumes included)

Includes two in-class parent viewings and two routines performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.
Jazz dance is a popular form of dance with roots in African movement set to contemporary music. Sharp accents, fast turns and high jumps are some of the elements learned in this class. Hip Hop is a fun and challenging dance style set to the music of today. The combination of body isolations and intricate rhythmic patterns allow for the students to learn about the three different styles of hip hop; Breaking, Popping, and Locking. Students will learn the vocabulary of both genres that will foster the proper foundations of growth for the students to excel within this class.

SEPTEMBER 19 TO APRIL 23 (28 WEEKS)

Ballet and Introduction to Lyrical – Junior Class (Approximate Age 5 to 7)
4:30-5:30pm – $340 (1 Costume included) Includes two in-class parent viewings and one routine performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.

This class combines the classical style of Ballet with an Introduction to Lyrical. Ballet is a form of dance basedon precise steps with gestures and movements of grace and fluidity. Lyrical is a genre that is a combination of Ballet technique with Jazz movement set to expressive lyrics of music. A foundation of technique is introduced and fostered every week for the student to grow within the discipline.

Ballet and Lyrical – Intermediate Class (Approximate Age 8 to 11)

5:30-7pm – $505 (2 Costumes included)

Includes two in-class parent viewings and two routines performed at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.

This class combines the classical style of Ballet with the expressive technique of Lyrical. Ballet is a form ofdance based on precise steps with gestures and movements of grace and fluidity. Lyrical is a genre that is acombination of Ballet technique with Jazz movement set to expressive lyrics of music. A foundation of technique is introduced and fostered every week for the student to grow within the discipline.

NEW Adult Dance Fitness – 8-9pm – 8 week session
Cost $80 – Oct. 17 to Dec. 12

Have you ever thought about trying dance but maybe it’s been a while since you’ve had those dancing shoes on? We’re happy to offer an 8 week introduction to dance for Adults so you can come out and try a little bit of everything. Get a taste of Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical and Hip Hop in an encouraging and fun environment. No previous dance experience necessary.

DANCE WORKSHOPS – 10 weeks each

Jan to April 

Musical Theatre Workshop (Age 7 & up currently in GAAC Dance program)
1:30pm-3:30pm – $100
Sundays, Jan. 12th, 19th, 26th, Feb. 9th, 16th, 23rd, March 1st, 8th, 15th, April 5th

This workshop combines dance with a theatrical aspect. It will involve musical theatre dance training, and theatrics to go along with the lyrics of the song. Students will learn the lyrics, but singing is not a requirement. A routine is created for both RFOTA and the year end Recital. The costumes will be provided by the parents, and will be outlined to you once the workshop has started. This workshop is open to all students age 7 and above currently involved in our dance program at the Centre.

NEW Tap Dance Workshop (5 & up)
3:30pm-4:30pm – $100
Sundays, Jan. 12th, 19th, 26th, Feb. 9th, 16th, 23rd, March 1st, 8th, 15th, April 5th

An intro to Tap for all beginner Tap dancers! Rhythmic combos and musicality set to popular music. This hourclass is high energy and a great way to try dance if you’ve never had the opportunity to before. The costumes will be provided by the parents, and will be outlined to you once the workshop has started. Tap dance shoes are required and a short combination will be put together for the year end recital.

SEPTEMBER 18 TO APRIL 22 (28 WEEKS)

Classes will be determined on skill level and age at time of registration.

We are excited to once again offer Highland dance classes with our much-loved, long-time instructor Miss Lesley. We are fortunate to have local talent like Lesley in our community with such extensive experience as a Highland dancer, competitor and instructor. A new Little Stars class is being offered for dancers age 3 to 5 years, as well as a beginner class for dancers age 6 years + and the returning intermediate class. In a fun and challenging environment, all students will learn about movement, rhythm, fundamental Highland dance skills, and the rich history of Highland dance! Registration includes dance fees and performances at Rockwood Festival of the Arts, the Final Dance Recital and Canada Day.

Little Stars – (Age 3-5 years), 5:30-6:00pm – $225 (Additional costume cost required)

Beginner Class (Age 6 and up), 6:00-6:45pm – $275 (Additional costume cost required)

Intermediate Class – 6:45-7:30pm – $275 (Additional costume cost required)
